Kuala Lumpur, 16 May 2014 – The Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia (CFM) hosted the Forum in conjunction with the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day yesterday. The event was held at the Le Meridien, KL Sentral and was officiated by the representative from the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, YBhg Dato’ Che Azemi Haron, Deputy Secretary II.

Dr. Elistina Abu Bakar, Chairman of CFM said, “The inaugural forum was held to analyze the broadband landscape in Malaysia in accordance with this year’s theme ‘Broadband for Sustainable Development” and also the best platform to point out the important issues regarding consumers in the telecommunications and multimedia industry.

Dr. Elistina added, that the forum explained into greater details about issues regarding broadband speed in Malaysia which was recorded slower than other ASEAN nations such as Vietnam and Cambodia. She said, “The result of the report was not consistent because Malaysian’s broadband penetration is in a bigger scale, so the calculation of broadband speed is going to be different in other places. Therefore, I hope this issue has been explained thoroughly to all parties involved”.

More than 100 participants attended the forum which was highlighted by presentation from service provider’s representative, consumer association and local celebrities.
