CFM is an organisation established and designated by MCMC as an industry forum under Section 189 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA 1998) as a platform for consumer protection.

The main instrument that CFM employs to ensure the protection of consumers’ rights is the General Consumer Code (GCC) of Practice for the Communications and Multimedia Industry Malaysia registered by MCMC in 2003. This document provides guidelines and benchmark to service providers on the provision of communications and multimedia services to consumers.

This public consultation process is important in ensuring public opinion is sufficiently taken into account prior to the registration of the new GCC version by MCMC in June 2020.
